 1914-20 OTHER RANKS
THESE FALL INTO TWO GROUPS OF DOCUMENTS, THE BURNT AND THE UNBURNT SERIES.THE UNBURNT SERIES ARE FULLY A-Z AVAILABLE AND REPRESENT APPROX 10% OF THOSE WHO SERVED IN THE RANKS. THEY ARE MAINLY MADE UP OF MEN WHO WERE DISCHARGED IN THAT PERIOD WHO WERE ENTITLED TO A PENSION DUE TO WOUNDS, LENGTH OF SERVICE ETC. THE MAJORITY OF THESE RECORDS WERE COLLECTED TOGETHER AFTER WW2. THEY INCLUDE MANY RECORDS OF SERVICE OF MEN WHO SERVED IN THE BOER WAR AND PRIOR CAMPAIGNS WHOM EITHER RE-ENLISTED AND SERVED ABROAD IN THE GREAT WAR OR SERVED IN THE UK INVOLVED IN TRAINING, RECRUITING ETC. RECORDS OF OLD SOLDIERS WHO ENLISTED IN THE ROYAL DEFENCE CORPS IN THEIR 70S CAN ALSO BE FOUND. THE BURNT SERIES ARE THE DOCUMENTS THAT SURVIVED THE BLITZ IN THE LAST WAR. THEY WILL BRING (WHEN FILMED IN FULL) A TOTAL OF APPROX 35% OF OTHER RANKS SERVICE DOCUMENTS AVAILABLE. THE FILMING PROJECT WILL NOT BE COMPLETED UNTIL 2003. CURRENTLY THE RECORDS OF THOSE MEN WHO SURNAMES BEGIN WITH THE LETTERS A, D, E, N, O, Q, U, V, & Z ARE AVAILABLE.
IF A SEARCH IS REQUIRED IN BOTH SERIES PLEASE SPECIFY WHICH SERIES SHOULD BE CHECKED FIRST. I WOULD SUGGEST THE BURNT SERIES AS 25% AVAILABLE AS TO 10% IN THE UNBURNT SERIES. IF PAPERS ARE FOUND IN FIRST SERIES SEARCHED ONLY #4.00 WILL BE CHARGED.
